Week 1 in Stockholm!

The first week here was rough as we had to go through being homeless for 3 nights - we could not make it in time to the housing office to collect the keys to our apartments. Thankfully we survived and managed to make it down to Stockholm University on Monday for our pre-placement brief and finally went into the classrooms of Sweden!

We are the 5 students in Stockholm Sweden!

I am placed to Internationella Engelska Skolan | Bromma (ISB), under the supervision of Ms. Ebba, the HOD of Mathematics for the higher grades (grade 7-9), as well as Mr Kenneth who took me to allow for more lesson observations as Ms Ebba has a smaller teaching load due to her position as HOD.

We are the 3 who are attached to Internationella Engelska Skolan | Bromma

In this first week of attachment, there were 2 working days in total (due to a public holiday which falls on Thursday, hence off-days on Thursday and Friday). I got to observe a total of 7 classes in total! I observed all 3 grades, grade 7 to  grade 9 and of the various learning levels! In this school, for Mathematics, the students of 2 classes are split into 3 different classes of different progress - 1 being the fast class, 2 being the middle class and 3 being the small class (for slower learners). I managed to sit in to watch all 3 different tiers and how the teachers adjust their teaching method to suit the students, e.g. slowing down and breaking down the instructions of a project for the small class so that the students have small achievable goals they can work towards to at their own pace.

My last working day of the week ended with a level meeting, all the Grade 9 mentors gathered together to discuss the upcoming events planned for the 9th graders as well as some sensitive data pertaining to students from grade 9. It enabled me to see the behind the scenes of teacher-work and planning.

I can't wait for next week to begin, when I will be teaching some of the grade 9 classes as well as assist Ms Ebba in her grade 8 classes!
